[blindlaw] FW: American Diabetes Association post for NFB listserv

I find the below highly ironic in that I have never seen the American
Diabetes Association show much concern about the *real* issues facing
blind diabetics (presumably, the group it would care most about) such as
the lack of an accessible insulin pump, the lack of responsiveness of
Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk in removing warnings from their insulin pen
packaging and inserts that caution against use of insulin pens by the
blind or visually impaired without the supervision of a sighted person
or the relative paucity of accessible American Diabetes ASsociation
literature other than on-line.

There was a recent message about the American Diabetes Association's
upcoming attorney training and attorney network. In addition to
training and referrals regarding education discrimination, the attorney
training and attorney network also covers employment discrimination.
Registration for the conference is still open, see the announcement,
below. The program always gets rave reviews and the faculty includes
some of the most experienced disability discrimination litigators from
around the country.

Attorneys who cannot attend the conference are still welcome to join the
American Diabetes Association's attorney network, which includes
referrals in education, employment, public accommodations, police, and
prison discrimination, access to technical assistance in disability
discrimination law and an active attorney listserv where disability law
information, resources, and questions are frequently posted. You can
check out the ADA's attorney materials bank, available at

Still Time To Register

Fighting For Fairness 2009:

Ending Discrimination Against Students And Workers With Diabetes

A few spots remain open for ADA Advocacy Attorney Network members to
attend “Fighting For Fairness: Ending Discrimination Against Students
and Workers With Diabetes 2009 (FFF2009), a training for attorneys, to
take place at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Atlanta, GA on October 23-24.
The program fee is only $50. CLEs will be offered. This is a terrific
opportunity (which has been offered only on a biennial basis) to develop
expertise (or build on existing knowledge) regarding diabetes and
disability discrimination law.

FFF2009 will provide participants will intensive skills building
sessions designed to enhance their ability to represent either students
or workers with diabetes. Specifically FFF 2009 will include:

* Sessions on the impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act
Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008 on diabetes-related discrimination,
proving disability, and defense issues plus discussions of the EEOCs
recently posted Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to Implement the ADA
Amendments Act of 2008 and EEOC's Questions and Answers on its Proposed
Regulations for the ADA Amendments Act make this an important and
timely program.
* Separate program tracks (6 ½ hours each) focused on diabetes
discrimination in employment and school
* Practical sessions on how to resolve diabetes discrimination problems
* Information on the American Diabetes Association and other resources
to assist in diabetes-related litigation

To view the FFF 2009 brochure and to register, go to
www.diabetes.org/fightingforfairness. Applicants will be accepted on a
first-come, first-served basis. Some scholarship funding is available
to assist with airfare based upon both the participant's and the ADA's
needs.
