This depends on where they are. There are some markets that are flooded and
with the economic conditions many law firms have had to downsize their
support staffs including paralegals. In some markets there are jobs but in
others there is a shortage. Many paralegals will take jobs as legal
secretaries or entry level support staff to get their feet in the door.
Being self-employed I work primarily for solo practioners or small firms
that would not require full time paralegal services.
It also depends on how creative someone can be with their skills as well as
there are many nontraditional jobs where paralegal skills are useful such as
public policy or legislative analysts, etc.
