About the Position: Incumbent will report to the Chief, Legal Assistance Division
*  Joint Base Lewis-McChord is located in the southern Puget Sound Region of Western Washington State. While the installation is less than an hour from Seattle and SeaTac International Airport, the alpine playgrounds of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountains are within an easy drive as are Pacific Ocean beaches. Nearby Tacoma, a city of over 200,000, is undergoing a revitalization of its downtown to include a four-year branch of the University of Washington. Local housing in close proximity to the base is readily available.

Duties
Additional Duty Location Info:

1 vacancy - WA - Fort Lewis

Serves as an Attorney-Advisor and legal expert in the Legal Assistance Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. Provides professional legal advice and representation to eligible beneficiaries, including active duty and retired personnel, family members, and authorized civilian personnel in matters relating to: real property, family law, estate planning, military and civilian administrative issues, consumer affairs, and other service related federal and state laws. Prepares documents, provides legal advice, and ensures readiness during pre and post deployment Soldier processing. Conducts legal research, drafts correspondence, negotiates, and performs in-court representation on behalf of clients as authorized by the Staff Judge Advocate. Duties also include teaching classes and the preparation of preventative law materials.

*  Bar Membership: An applicant must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
*  Experience: Applicant must have two or more years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as an LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience.
