[blindlaw] turning off the screen of a laptop

Mostly you can't turn them off completely, but you can gain a lot of battery life by turning the brightness down as low 
as it can go.  Most laptops let you switch between your LCD display and an external monitor, but they are smart 
enough to not switch if there is no monitor plugged in.  That isn't to say that there may not be one out there 
somewhere, though.
