ASSISTANT CORPORATION COUNSEL
 
Position Overview:  This position is appointed by the Corporation Counsel,
under authorization of the County Board.  Appointments to this position are
pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes, Section 59.42(1).  After gaining
experience in the office, employee handles court appearances and litigation
in trials of Human Services and Child Support cases before courts and
juries. Also aids the Corporation Counsel in the performance of the duties
of Corporation Counsel. See job description for full list of duties.


 

Hours of Work:  Core hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM based on a 37.5 hours
week.  As a salaried employee, work will occasionally be required above and
beyond the core hours.

                 

Position Requirements:  Graduate of an accredited School of Law.  Licensed
and admitted to practice as an Attorney at Law in all Courts in the State of
Wisconsin by the Supreme Court.  Excellent communication skills and ability
to relate to and work effectively with other attorneys and other County
Departments. Court experience litigating cases and municipal law experience
are helpful.  Knowledge of Child Support (Ch. 767);Mental Health Act
(Ch.51); Protective Service System (Ch.55); and Guardianships (Ch.54).
Knowledge of laws governing County Board and its officers.  Ability to
research legal issues. Ability to effectively present and litigate cases at
all stages - administrative, circuit court and appellate court levels.
Ability to work cooperatively with social service agencies and interact
respectfully with their clientele.

 

Residency Requirements:  County or State residency is not required as a
condition of employment.

 

Pay and Benefits:  Starts at $51,772 with excellent County benefit package.
