The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), located in Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking applicants for the positions identified below.  CMS is seeking to hire a veteran or non-veteran individual who is Schedule A eligible, meaning that they possess a "severe" disability. The CMS hiring managers in the Center for Medicare's Division of Clinical and Operational Performance are looking for individuals to fill two positions.  Below are descriptions of the two positions:

Position #1 - GS-12/13 Health Insurance Specialist
This person's main job duties will be to conduct various analyses for Part D using SAS via the mainframe.  This requires an understanding of pharmacy data as well as the ability to utilize the mainframe and statistical packages for programming.

Main skill set required:

*        Intermediate to advanced experience utilizing the Mainframe

*        Intermediate to advanced SAS programming skills

*        Experienced with analyzing and manipulating large data sets

*        Experienced analyzing pharmacy administrative claims data

*        Knowledge of statistics

*        Detail-oriented

*        Team player

*        Excellent organizational skills


Position #2 - GS-12/13 Health Insurance Specialist
This person's main job duties will be to develop and implement a monitoring and oversight program focused on Excess Utilization of pain medications.  This effort is an outgrowth of a GAO report.  The main focus will be to help plans identify a strategy for identifying beneficiaries who may be at risk of safety issues related to the use of pain medications.  This will involve contract management, data analyses, database development, monitoring activities, and oversight.

Main skill set required:

*        Advanced analytical skills.  Needs the ability to be able to run analyses, interpret data, and make inferences and recommendations based on findings.

*        Excellent project management skills

*        Excellent computer skills in Excel, Access, and/or SAS

*        Experienced with analyzing relational data sets

*        Experienced analyzing pharmacy administrative claims data

*        Knowledge of statistics

*        Detail-oriented

*        Team player

*        Excellent organizational skills

*        Clinical background preferable, but not required
