Colleagues:

Marcie Roth, Director of FEMA's Office of Disability Integration and Coordination, would like to share the link to CNN.com below with you all regarding a largely overlooked report issued this month.

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction found that the crucial needs of about 1 billion people living with physical and mental disabilities around the world are not woven into the disaster planning and emergency response plans of governments and civil society groups.

I worked with the Maryland Department of Disabilities in the past on this issue. Notably, there is a need to restart policy work from a disability focus on the access of people with disabilities to emergency preparedness, response, and mitigation; this is especially in light of the recently enacted federal legislation requiring accessible notifications.

A stakeholder community dialogue, facilitated by the Mid-Atlantic Lyceum, might be convened.
