[blindlaw] SSDI

The SSDI is a federal program and one can apply anywhere. If you don't have
work credits and would only be eligible for SSI, this won't change too much
either as you can apply in the state in which you reside, and transfer the
federal portion of the benefit once you move. However, the SSI is also a
Federal program, and many of the States provide supplements to the Federal
benefit. Most states have some sort of a DBS or Disability Benefit
Specialist program, and in many cases, a WIPA or Work Incentive and Planning
Assistance Program. I believe it is always very appropriate to provide
various options to individuals.

HTH,
Steve

Subject: [blindlaw] SSDI

Hi,

In August I will begin my law school career at Chicago-Kent College of Law.
When it comes to finances like paying for school and other expenses, what
would you recommend regarding applying for SSDI? How would this work going
from Minnesota to Illinois? Would I merely give the agency my Chicago
address and tell them when I will be there?

Thanks,

Jordan Richardson
