The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) seeks a mid-level Policy Analyst to conduct policy analysis, research, and dissemination activities on Social Security and related issues. The Academy is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization devoted to research and education on Social Security, health care policy, and related public and private programs. Its 900 members are among the nation’s leading experts on social insurance programs and policy.

Responsibilities:

The Policy Analyst is part of an interdisciplinary team that conducts, disseminates, and communicates the Academy’s policy analysis, research, and educational work on Social Security issues. S/he analyzes, collects, and develops research and policy analyses related to Social Security programs, and is responsible for the management of current grants. S/he represents the Academy at external events and participates in outreach and dissemination of Academy materials with the goal of promoting deeper understanding of Social Security among policymakers and their staffs, journalists, academics and the wider public. In conjunction with income security staff, s/he contributes to developing new initiatives and project ideas on Social Security, disability, and unemployment insurance policies.

The position will report to the Academy’s Vice President for Policy. Specific responsibilities include:

Policy analysis and research:

  *   Analyze Social Security policies, policy options, legislative proposals, and related cost estimates;
  *   Research, draft, and edit policy briefs, fact sheets, and other materials suited to the target audience, which may include policymakers and their staffs, journalists, and Academy members or other experts;
  *   Produce spreadsheet analyses, tables, and charts, and conduct research for income security projects;
  *   Coordinate internal and external reviews, editing, and production of income security products and publications.

Outreach and dissemination:

  *   Respond to requests for information, data, and interviews from congressional staffers, journalists, Academy members, and others;
  *   Develop and give presentations on Social Security topics at events, webinars, or classes, as requested;
  *   Represent the Academy at external meetings; build and strengthen relationships and partnerships with relevant organizations.

Grants management:

  *   Manage Social Security projects and budgets;
  *   Track project accomplishments and activities, and write reports for funders, the Academy's board of directors, and advisory groups.
  *   Assist other Academy staff in developing funding proposals.

Assist with planning and implementation of events, including:

  *   Public events such as workshops, Hill briefings, large conferences, and expert roundtables;
  *   Individual briefings for policymakers, journalists, and other audiences;
  *   Meetings of relevant Academy committees and study panels.
