[blindLaw] Entering a BOP Facility

All,

Criminal defense folks, has anyone represented an inmate housed in a DOJ BOP facility? If so, what kind of accommodations did you obtain in terms of gaining entry into the prison with a laptop, phone, Braille note taker, or other assistive technology. Assuming travel is safe and attorneys are required to represent clients in-person, I am thinking of taking on a parole matter, which would require entering a BOP facility to visit the inmate initially and then to attend his parole hearing. Of course, this becomes much harder if I cannot take a phone, pocket display, or even a slate or stylus, which may be considered a contraband item in a prison environment. While I could take a sheaf of embossed Braille, assuming I could obtain access to an embosser, I am not sure how I would take notes. Any thoughts?

Regards,
Nikki
