DESCRIPTION:

Worldwide there are more than one billion individuals living with a
disability. Many live in conflict settings or in developing countries where
they are subjected to violence and discrimination and experience myriad
barriers to education, employment, housing, health care, independent
decision-making, and political participation. Panelists will discuss the
progress made under the Americans with Disabilities Act in the United States
and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities worldwide,
including Canada, in integrating disability rights within the broader human
rights agenda, as well as the pressing challenges that continue, including
violence against women and children with disabilities, institutionalization,
the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
