This is Helga and I am a visually impaired student. Hope you all are doing well. I have a question regarding the LSAT writing. For those who took the LSAT exam and completed your writing sample last year, what was your accommodations for it? Did you use the launch writing link that is in the LSAC website or did you read the Prompt and write the essay with Microsoft word? I’m just wondering. I already registered for the remotely LSAT administration that will be this October, and will also need to complete a writing sample. It will be my first time completing these tests. For the writing sample, I will prefer using Microsoft word since I’m familiar with that app on my Mac-book Pro using VoiceOver. However, what is your experience with the launch writing link? I never use that program before, so I am not so sure if it is accessible or compatible with VoiceOver and Google Chrome on the Mac when it comes to the Prompt? I did write to the LSAC Accommodation Team two weeks ago regarding using Microsoft word in order to read the LSAT writing Prompt and write the essay, but I still did not receive any respond about that matter. In fact, I do have a letter of accommodation, but It does not really mention if I can use Microsoft word for the LSAT writing. Do you have any suggestions? I look forward to hear from you soon. Thanks so much for reading! The NABL Mock Trial is back! Join us in the Lanier Grand Ballroom G & J on July 2, 2023 at 4:15PM or when the Resolutions Committee adjourns, whichever is later, for our 23rd Mock Trial. As this is a fundraiser, admission is $5 per person. Federation lawyers oppose each other to enact a case addressing the civil rights of blind people, and the audience serves as the jury. The subject matter is serious, but the courtroom portrayers are very entertaining. This year, for the first time ever, we will be making available for purchase for $20, a curated selection of previous NABL mock trials. Scott Labarre chose them himself prior to his passing. These recordings feature Federation lawyers, including Scott Labarre, Charlie Brown, and Peggy Elliott, and many others in a variety of roles. These recordings will be available via download, or for those attending the NFB Convention in person who prefer, via flash drive. Individuals can purchase the recordings on the Blind Lawyers website shortly, or they can visit Lisa Bonderson at the NABL registration table outside of our meeting room, or they can purchase them from me during General Sessions at the Maryland delegation. Proceeds will go to the Scott C. Labarre Leadership and Justice Fund. We will be holding our 2023 Annual Meeting for the National Association of Blind Lawyers on July 3, 2023 from 1PM - 6:30PM, including a networking reception. The agenda is forthcoming. The registration form will be posted on the Blind Lawyers website shortly. Registration costs include NABL dues. Registration for students is $5, for all others is $25, and those wishing to receive CLE can do so for an additional $20. Message-ID: <082b01d9a984$a2e5d9d0$e8b18d70$@gmail.com> Friends, As you may be aware, the Mock Trial is an event the National Association of Blind Lawyers holds annually in connection with each NFB convention. This was the brainchild of our long-time President, Scott Labarre, who always served in one of the mock trial roles. The mock trial takes a blindness related legal issue and, through improvisation and creativity, blind lawyers and other Federation actors bring the story to life, often with hilarious results. In order to honor and remember our long-time friend, president, and brother in the movement and legal field, for the first time ever, the National Association of Blind Lawyers will be making available for purchase, a curated selection of previous NABL mock trials. Scott Labarre chose them himself prior to his passing. These recordings feature Federation lawyers, including Scott Labarre, Charlie Brown, and other familiar voices in a variety of roles. Proceeds will go to the Scott C. Labarre Leadership and Justice Fund. The recordings cost $20 if paying with cash on-site and $22 per person for all other methods including online. These recordings will be available via download, or for those attending the NFB Convention in person who prefer, via flash drive. Individuals can purchase the recordings in one of three ways: * Online by visiting: https://www.blindlawyers.net/home * Visiting Lisa Bonderson at the NABL registration table outside of the NABL Annual Meeting on July 3 from 1 - 4:30PM (Hilton Americas Room 344) * Visiting Ronza Othman during General Sessions at the Maryland delegation flag Those with questions or who need additional information should contact NABL President Ronza Othman at Rothmanjd at gmail.com or 708-829-0523. The agency said it will issue a proposal in August to amend the regulations implementing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The law prohibits disability discrimination at schools and in other programs that receive federal funding. In particular, Section 504 mandates that students with disabilities be provided a free appropriate public education and various types of accommodations. Many young people qualify for services under both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504, though more than 1.38 million students were covered by Section 504 alone as of the 2017-2018 school year, federal civil rights data shows. The Education Department said that its rules related to Section 504 have seen little modification since 1977 and that the forthcoming proposal will reflect the priorities of the Biden-Harris administration. A notice published in the Education Department's unified agenda indicates that the proposed rule is expected to better align the regulations with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other civil rights laws protecting this population, update outdated language and address "persistent barriers to access for students with disabilities." The Education Department first signaled its intent to update Section 504 regulations last year when it sought public comment on what types of revisions should be considered and indicated that it would hold listening sessions on the topic. Feedback from those outreach efforts has been incorporated into the upcoming proposal, the agency said in a recent report.
