[blindLaw] attending hearings via vc: dealing with jaws' voice

What kind of headphones and microphone are you using? If you’re using
on/over-ears that are open-back, you may be leaking sound. You may have
to use earbuds instead. also, if you are using the headphone mic, that
could increase the leakage problem. I’d suggest using earbuds with no
integrated mic, and then using your computer’s built-in microphone
(presuming you have a notebook and not a desktop computer).

Happy to try to troubleshoot further if you can provide more technical
details on your current computer/headphone/mic tech.

If you can’t figure out a less expensive solution, you might be able
to attach an external sound card and plug-in a noise canceling headset
for one side, while channeling jaws through a different headset on the
other side.

I do use earphones. i set it up for jaws to to speak from one
earpiece and
the other audio channels from te other earpiece. but somehow, the court
staff still keeps muting me. I assume because the noise from earpiece a
carries to the other participants through earpiece b.

That was going to be my recommendation as well. I have never had this
issue on either of the platforms you mentioned. However, I always use
headphones. If for some reason that isn’t working, maybe a fair
accommodation would be to use a separate computer to log into the voice
conference and then use your computer for your notes and argument? With
headphones of course. Last week I was in superior court here in North
Carolina and just used my notes on my iPhone with an AirPod. That worked
great, but I did have my laptop with me and available in case the judge
had
questions about the file that I did not anticipate. Luckily, it was
smooth
sailing.

Do you use a headset? I find using at least one earbud helpful. I use
a
wired one to avoid latency issues.

Hi All,

I often have to appear for virtual hearings via webex and zoom. Whatever
jaws speaks can be heard by the other participants on the call. I have
used
the keystroke insert+space+v+arrow keys, but still that doesnot solve
the
problem. he court administrators keep muting me due to the noise that
jaws
makes. this prevents me from referencing my notes and arguing
effectively.
please help.
