[blindLaw] BlindLaw Digest, Vol 240, Issue 11

Anderson-Smitley, Timothy tandersonsmitley at centralmnlegal.org
Tue May 14 13:30:38 UTC 2024

Hello,
I lower the jaws volume separately from the system volume using insert + space + V + J. Court admin hasn't complained about hearing any chatter from jaws. I also send an accommodation letter to the court before hearings and trials t let them to know to expect the screen-reader.
I also have my Zoom audio setting set to high for canceling background noise.
If I am using a special computer setup in a conference room with an external camera, I change the sound card output to my computer, so Jaws doesn't play thorughthe room speakers.

If you can?t figure out a less expensive solution, you might be able to attach an external sound card and plug-in a noise canceling headset for one side, while channeling jaws through a different headset on the other side.

Hi,
Have you tried lowering the jaws volume entirely to see at what level you no longer hear jaws? Maybe calling someone on your computer or recording yourself while jaws is talking to see if it bleeds through.
I use this headset that is cheap but no one hears jaws on it. I know that it says 3.5 MM but it is USB.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/298662725
And these also
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0775S8X5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_tit
le?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They both have in line control so you can mute yourself when you are not talking and hear jaws all you need.
Best,
Natalia

Hi All,

I often have to appear for virtual hearings via webex and zoom. Whatever jaws speaks can be heard by the other participants on the call. I have used the keystroke insert+space+v+arrow keys, but still that doesnot solve the problem. he court administrators keep muting me due to the noise that jaws makes. this prevents me from referencing my notes and arguing effectively.
please help.

Rahul

Let me know if you would like me to jump on a conference call via either of these platforms so we can experiment to see what will help. It might be a good idea to get a few headsets to try before this call.

Hello,
Sure we can do that. I can guarantee they work as I have used both of these for many many hours on various platforms with jaws speaking the whole time and nothing is heard. I forgot to recommend the Jabra Evolves as well. Super comfortable and known for noise cancelling.
Good luck!
Natalia
