Our office (county governmental agency) uses JustWare, from New Dawn Techno=
logies. It is decidedly NOT accessible as we have it, and is apparently no=
t very easy to see or use even for the fully sighted attorneys. As I recal=
l from when they were first rolling it out, about the same time I was learn=
ing JAWS, it possibly could be scripted to become somewhat accessible. Unf=
ortunately, neither the company nor our agency has been willing to make the=
effort, and it is far too complex / time consuming for any non-IT staff or=
user to be expected to do independently.

Susan,

Have you looked into using the ALT workflow accelerator to make the softwar=
e accessible. It is an alternative to JAWS scripting. It basically allows o=
ne to record a macro for certain mouse functions and then assign a hotkey t=
o it. This software is incredibly helpful to me, and may be helpful to thos=
e blind attorneys using inaccessible case management software. My descripti=
on doesn't do it justice, as it has a very robust set of uses. Learn more a=

I would encourage all blind attorneys to look at the ALT workflow software.=
In addition to eliminating the need for expensive scripting, it allows you=
to automate tasks. For example, I can press the alt key twice, type in gs =
space and then my google search, and my computer will quickly complete a go=
ogle search. I can also have JAWS open documents and move focus to particul=
ar places, and record macros for automation of tasks. I can log in to westl=
aw by tapping alt twice, hitting space, and typing wl. You can use this sof=
tware to record a series of mouse clicks, automating tasks that were former=
ly only possible with the assistance of a sighted colleague or through expe=
nsive JAWS scripting.

I am not receiving any compensation to promote this product, but I find it =
extremely useful. More information is available at www.u-r-able.com.The<htt=
p://www.u-r-able.com.The> software is a bit pricy, but still much less expe=
nsive than JAWS. You can also sync your database across devices using a ser=
vice like dropbox, making this useful not only at work but at home. I have =
just started training with it and can already tell that my efficiency is im=
proving immensely.

I would be interested in presenting on technology helpful to blind attorney=
s at a future NABL meeting. Would list members be interested in such presen=
tations, or even a series of webinars on technology topics?

Because we are a public defender office under the county administration, we=
do not have the option of purchasing or loading other programs. Just gett=
ing JAWS approved required major work and research on my up part, outside o=
f my regular caseload. Once approved, IT has never been able to make it wo=
rk with our extremely antiquated network. I finally got approval (after 7 =
years of a barely functional desktop computer) for an iPad Pro, which solve=
s many issues (but not the ability to use the file management or payroll pr=
ograms, which remain inaccessible) while still requiring me to use the bare=
ly functional desktop as the point for transferring cases from the duplicat=
e Word system we created to my iPad. I have too much else to do, so my par=
alegal is kind enough to handle the data entry on the inaccessible programs=
for me.

> Our office (county governmental agency) uses JustWare, from New Dawn Tech=
nologies. It is decidedly NOT accessible as we have it, and is apparently =
not very easy to see or use even for the fully sighted attorneys. As I rec=
all from when they were first rolling it out, about the same time I was lea=
rning JAWS, it possibly could be scripted to become somewhat accessible. U=
nfortunately, neither the company nor our agency has been willing to make t=
he effort, and it is far too complex / time consuming for any non-IT staff =
or user to be expected to do independently.

>> This, indeed, has been a constant point of discussion on this list and i=
s a problem we need to spend some energy on agitating about. Perhaps a res=
olution this year?
>>
>> My office uses a product called edocs by OpenText. It is a document man=
agement system and is pretty accessible. However, I don't know if the vers=
ion my office, which is a federal government office, has been customized to=
make it so. Here is a link to information about it:

ment-edocs
>>
>> Edocs may not be all inclusive enough, though, if you are looking for ti=
mekeeping, billing, etcetera to be included in the product.

>> My office is investigating adoption of a legal case management software =
package beyond that which P&As use for time tracking and billing. I know th=
is has been discussed here before, but I can't find much via the archives. =
What case management software does your office use and is it accessible? I =
would be interested in as much feedback on this as possible.
