If you're running Linux, you can extract images from PDF files with the
pdfimages command.

"Pdfimages saves images from a Portable Document Format  (PDF)  file  as
Portable Pixmap (PPM), Portable Bitmap (PBM), or JPEG files."

Imagemagick can then be used to convert to other desired formats.
