[Blindmath] latex symbols

Hi all,
Here is a question that may be better suited to this list. A previous 
message said that two good places to find math equations and algarithms use 
latex (sorry if that is the wrong word) to present information. I know the 
caret is exponent, underscore is subscript, and period is times. What about 
braces ({ or })? Are there other common symbols I should know about? Thanks.
