There are some good suggestions here about how to design an improved code.  Meanwhile it is too late in the UK as the UEB has already just been adopted there and it may soon be too late here in the US if the rumors are true.  So the immediate action item for concerned US braille users is to figure out how to prevent BANA from making any changes at the present time.

Please remember that while adult braille readers like many of this list's posters may have the flexibility to select what works best for them, braille learners are taught according to what the braille authorities require.  In the case of the UEB this means one-for-one "computer braille" is not allowed.
