I'd like to add to what Birkir wrote. Nemeth braille math is also used in
east Asia, including Indonesia and Thailand. There is a wonderful book
published by ON-NET and ICEVI that explains the details of Nemeth math and
how to also teach a large number of math concepts to visually-impaired
persons. The teaching strategies were based on workshops attended by
teachers from at least seven different countries.
The book is titled "Mathematics Made Easy For Children with Visual
Impairment".
