[Blindmath] Hello

We also have a list on NFBNET connected with our National Organization of Blind Educators. Perhaps this is what was meant by National Association of
Blind Teachers, I don't know. However, someone there may have leads even if there are no blind math teachers on that list right now. Go to

http://www.nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/nobe-l_nfbnet.org

You do not need to be a member to join that list. It is a low traffic list.

I was a math major but not a math teacher but I recognize that there is a good deal of specialization necessary for teaching math. I also realize that there
may simply not be magic answers to some of what you face. Still, don't overlook what you have in common with other teaching specialties. A Language
Arts teacher will have completely different skills, but some of the processes for grading papers may still be relevant. If you need to deal with no longer
seeing papers, the process of figuring out how to get that information conveyed to you meaningfully is one that is shared by other blind teachers. In saying
that, I am certainly not saying that a person hired to deal with Language Arts homework could also do math, but there may be some techniques that are
transferable.

How are kids in your classes handing in homework now? Are they handwriting problems on paper and turning them in, or are they interacting with a web
site or other computer-based system. If the computer is not being used, is it on the horizon in your school? Might you pick up points by moving into that
area as a pioneer? That won't solve all your problems, but it might give you something to work with.

Good luck, we want you to succeed. If these avenues are all dead ends, ask here again.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
