Susan M gave you the link to the article I wrote that accompanies the APH
Braille/Print Protractor. Since then, I have changed my teaching techniques
for most students. I start out having them first measure angles on 2-D
manipulatives with some depth (actually 3-D to be mathematically correct).
Taking this extra time before going to various types of plastic and paper
tactile graphics really helps the majority of my students. I actually have
15 YouTube videos on the APH Braille/Print Protractor. Parts 13 - 15 are on
measuring. I start with 2-D manipulatives, then use the APH Geometry Tactile
Graphics Kit angles, and finally go to various types of paper tactile
graphics: Swell Touch paper, Tactile Vision graphics, Braillon, braille
paper... As Susan M mentioned, you don't have to use my exact techniques. I
often let the students develop their own techniques. Some prefer to back
slightly off the angle and have the wand and side of the protractor situated
parallel to the rays of the angle so that they can more easily tactually
discriminate them. There is no wrong way if it works!!
It is not an easy task finding all the parts if you go directly to the
YouTube video website, so our media producer tried to organize them on our
distance ed site. However, he accidentally left off the links for Parts 13 -
15. So, you can search on the YouTube website for: APH Braille/Print
Protractor, and all the parts will show up for now. I'm asking him to add
the missing links though ASAP.

Canadian teachers (Ontario to specific) as part of a train the trainers

well with lots of hands-on instruction and pictures. I'll see if I can find
that for you as well.

Please give me some ideas as to how to teach a student to measure angles. I
am using the American Printing House protractor, and the Graphic aid from
APH(Consists of a cork board mounted with a rubber mat embossed with a 34 x
30 grid of 1/2 inch squares. ) I am constructing the angles with rubber
bands, and push pins, or they are prepared using embossed angles paper.
The process is so encumbered! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, M
