I was fortunate to have met with several individuals here in Michigan who are directly involved with creating the online state assessments. To talk with them was exciting to say the least. They are hungry for information about our VI population and how to make the tests accessible, they even went so far as to start learing braille. Questions were asked, suggestions were made and ideas were discussed, and I believe that the group left with an even greater understanding and appreciation for the obstacles they face. I also learned that the director of the Department of Ed-Low Incidence Outreach and others who are responsible for providing accessible accommodations have been invited to participate in some of the discussion groups, so I am cautiously optimistic. I hope that by the time the assessment tests are put into practice I am able to report resounding success with the adaptations for our visually impaired students.
Thank you again to those of you who provided input to my original e-mail,
