Hi Faiz
Thanks so much for your reply. I have been trying to find simple
instruction guides for SPSS (when I was required to use this program
previously it wasn't accessible and I needed a notetaker's assistance) but
I'm not finding anything. I'll check out the web site you sent me and have
a look for other spss tutorials.
Thanks again.
Paula

Hi Paula,
I've used SPSS 21 with jaws and NVDA. Jaws does work with SPSS 21, if you
can install java, and configure java access bridge. But, there are times
when jaws does not work very smoothly with SPSS.
I've found that NVDA gives a smoother user experience as compared to jaws.
Yes, it is difficult to enter data directly in SPSS, I enter data in MS
excel, and use SPSS import data functionality to import data in SPSS.
You're correct, without exporting the output to a Microsoft word document we
cannot read the output, but, a positive is that the output is always
correctly formatted, and all the output is in tables. If you do not like
reading tables, and prefer the output in the form of plain text, then,
maybe you should consider using some other statistical program.
All the analysis in SPSS is carried out by accessing the analyze (Alta) menu
option.
There are good tutorials available on the web, and typing SPSS tutorials on
Google will allow you to review for yourself which tutorials you find
useful, tutorials which have the answers of your questions.
The University of California has comprehensive tutorials on how to use SPSS
http://www.ats.ucla.edu/stat/spss/
I hope this helps a little,
Regards,
Faiz.

Subject: [Blindmath] IBM SPSS21 and NVDA
Hi there
I am about to start using SPSS21 with NVDA. After much exploration,
Window-Eyes resulting in the program crashing and Jaws not working at all,
it is looking like MVDA is the best option. Can anybody direct me to some
useful resources that will teach me how to use SPSS21. I notice that I can
read my data when it is imported into SPS S, but can't enter data directly
into the program itself. Also, from my internet searching, I see that in
order to read the output, you need to export to Microsoft Word. Is it
therefor better to analyse one variable at a time? Any tips for efficient
SPSS use would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Paula
