This morning Ron asked if a Phoenix embosser's Firebird software would open
.svg files. The answer is "It depends". Below is info from the Firebird
help file. My experience has been that some will open and some will not,
just as the help file describes.
.SVG: The Scalable Vector Graphic format is a widely-deployed royalty-free
graphics format developed and maintained by the W3C SVG Working Group. SVG
is a markup language for describing two-dimensional graphics applications
and images, and a set of related graphics script interfaces. This format is
currently under development. The Firebird Graphics Editor can open certain
graphic files that are saved in this format. However, there seems to be a
wide range of latitude for this developing standard and not all .SVG files
are supported. As a general rule of thumb, if you can open and view a file
saved in this format using a web browser such as Internet Explorer, then
you should be able to also open the file in the Firebird Graphics Editor.
Note: The File Formats that can be opened by the Firebird Graphics Editor
are largely determined by Microsoft's .NET framework's compatibility list.
There are a number of free graphic format converters available on the
Internet. There are also a number of web sites offering file format
conversion as well.
