[Blindmath] technology frustration with my mathlab.com

Hello,
I am currently using my math lab through pearson. It is definitely
challenging. I am using a computer with windows 8, IE11, and Jaws 16.
It took me a long time to work things out with their tech support, and
I had to postpone taking my math classes several times as a result.
Fortunately, my disability coordinator was finally able to get somewhere
with them, but it took some veiled threats of law suits to make them sit up
and take notice. I still don't think the program is completely accessible,
for example, the verbal description of diagrams is still quite poor, but
luckily my instructor is fantastic and gives me some slack on that
particular content.
I don't know if any of this information helps you, but I do understand your
confusion.
Kathy

Subject: [Blindmath] technology frustration with my mathlab.com
Hi. Is anyone out here using my mathlab.com also known as Pearson Education?
They keep saying how accessible they are, and I have been struggling with
these people for over a year. My school uses this site a lot and I have
actually gotten some very useful things out of it. It is a nice interactive
exercise area that will help you break down problems, or show you how to
break down a similar problem.
However, the last time I spoke to one of their "disability team members" I
was told that mathlab will only work with JFW 15, and that I need to use IE
9 or earlier. This seems almost impossible in this day and age to have such
old technology.
Has anyone worked with these people before? Are they completely nuts? Or am
I completely nuts?
I have even tried using the enterprise mode for IE, that someone on here was
talking about a few weeks ago, only to find out that I have to have windows
8.1 Enterprise; instead of my 8.1 home premium version.
I also don't have a cool thousand dollars for jaws.
Ready to pull my hair out!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
bb
