[BlindMath] [Blind Math] Coding Group and Coding tutor for Vision Impaired High School Student

Thanks Ken, Jason, Traci, Steve, SuperSilly and others who responded privately! We have joined the mailing list as suggested.

My daughter knows Python to some extent as she opted for it in the high school and liked it but I was looking forward to help her learn language like JAVA, C#, C++ which uses curly braces as scope delimiter and therefore, I believe, may be more accessible compared to Python’s approach which uses indentation. (that’s my personal opinion though 😊). Moreover, I believe, JAVA is the preferred languages for Comp Science students in Universities so that's another reason for the bias.

I'll also try out the Bookshare to see if there are any interesting books that may help!

Thanks
Shail

You might want to look for mentors. I have taught two people python and I used to be very active on the original programming lists. They got to ugly so now I I help people when they ask. Most of the time all it takes is help getting started. Of course the problem is not always learning coding but I have found in the two students I have had and the many I have worked with over the years screen reader skills have been more problems than learning coding. If you can't dig through the web pages of information you can't
learn to code.

I will also point out if it only took reading a book for your son there are at least 100 python books on Bookshare that are very good.

Ken

My son is interested in coding and has learned some Python here and there.
It is very user friendly with a screenreader. We have not had much luck in finding online programs to use though for tutorials and local camps are completely inaccessible.
