As Jonathan says, it's worth finding out how the slides were generated. If they were generated from another source such as LaTeX or Markdown, they could be reproduced in an accessible format - eg HTML.

The usefulness of the e-pub is dependent on which file formats they've used to provide the content. The format can be accessible, but that doesn't mean it is accessible. I have seen an e-pub for example that was just the wrapping for the pdf version of a book.

I've unzipped an e-pub archive to get to the bits inside them a few times. In the best situation, the content will be html files for the content and a bunch of other files to manage the content. I think it is worth pursuing if you've got the same book as your classmates. Even if the formulae aren't working, the way the author has discussed things could help make the lectures more appealing than if you are working from a book of a different flavour.

If a substitute text is required, then I recommend showing your course staff a few options and asking which one is the best match for the nature/flavour of the course you are taking. Statistics courses range from the sort of thing we did in the 90s to ultra-modern courses that use every recent tool possible. I personally favour the latter as it offers the best opportunity for access; it is how I continue to survive in employment after all.

These books almost invariably have an R flavour but the commentary on introductory topics should always rise above software. I do like Hadley Wickham's books (not just because he is a kiwi) and the other RStudio team members. Roger Peng's works are pretty readable too. You will find some pretty basic stuff and some seriously advanced material as well. There are also plenty of books there which are works in progress. Again, I suggest your course tutors should help refine the search. Some of the content asks for money; don't bother as there is almost certainly something there that will cost nothing and meet your needs.

Are the slides pdf or power point? The source content will be more use than the end product, but I really cannot tell you how bad/good power point is today because I haven't touched it (willingly) for a very long time. I didn't like the results from converting from power point to anything else last time I tried, so I just try to avoid it at all cost.

Does anyone have a version of a statistics book with accessible equations?
I'm struggling to get accessible materials from my disability department.
They gave me slides from the instructor that look like:

Which doesn't make any sense. NVDA tells me there are unknown symbols, so I know I'm missing something.

They gave me a textbook, but I am not exactly sure how to read it if it has MathML in it.

I am going over correlations now, and will be going over regressions next week.

So:

1. Does anyone have a good intro stats course or resource

2. Does anyone know how to read an Epub with MathML using a screen reader?
