Hello John,

Have you compared matlab and Octave? 

I don't need to use either much anymore, but the few things I want to do are easily accommodated in Octave, with much less access hassle. I do this by running Octave in a command line interface which is installed and immediately available by default.

I also run small Octave tasks via R in markdown documents, meaning my Octave and my words are co-located. Again, I point out that my Octave work is on the light side, perhaps trivial.

Hello, I continue to recommend using MatLab from Mathworks for data analysis such as plots or complex calculations. I am having good results with MatLab 2018b with the -nodesktop option. However,I am encountering some challenges with the most recent MatLab version 2022a.  I use MatLab with a refreshable braille display. I have made a support request to Mathworks with case number 05621801.  If you are using MatLab with a Windows PC, please provide me your email information.  Perhaps together we can encourage Mathworks to get MatLab to provide sufficiently good speech and braille experience for professional or student use.
