My preferred environment is Emacs, although I've used a variety of other
editors, at least for testing purposes.

For VSCode, note that the accessibility-related bug which prevented soft
word wrap from being used with a screen reader active has now been
fixed. LaTeX Workshop is the most often recommended VSCode extension,
but I haven't tested its accessibility in depth. Basic editing and
indentation worked when I tried it, as did abbreviations for
automatically inserting various LaTeX commands.

However, I would suggest obtaining advice from those who use VSCode
regularly, rather than from me.
