Penny Rosenblum and some of her colleagues are seeking high school math
teachers to discuss how they support the student who is blind or has low
vision and uses technology in their classroom. They don’t have to be
experts. In fact, they can be first year teachers!! Please ask your
favorite or not-so-favorite math teacher, especially if you are their
student!!
Hello Everyone,
We hope you can find just a few minutes to assist us with recruitment for a
research study. Specifically, we want to talk with high school math
teachers. The information we will gather will help us design materials for
TVIs and math teachers so we all can better support our students’ success
in STEM.
We are conducting 90-minute focus groups with high school math teachers who
for the 2023-2024 school year have a visually impaired student in their
class. We want to understand how they support the student who is blind or
has low vision and uses technology. We don’t expect math teachers to have
all the answers, just to share their perspective with us.
Focus groups will be held in the late afternoon/evening or on weekends so
as not to interfere with the teaching day. Participants will receive a $50
Amazon gift card. Will you take just a few minutes to forward the below
message (or your own version of it) to your high school students’ math
teachers. Please also forward the flyer.
Thanks,
Penny, Michael, Tina, and Adelaide

Hello,
I saw an opportunity that I thought would interest you as you are currently
working with ____. The attached flyer explains the research study
conducted by four researchers in the visual impairment field. They want to
speak with high school math teachers such as you. Specifically, they want
to learn about how you’re using technology in your classroom and how our
student accesses and participates in math learning. They realize that for
many math teachers this is the first year they have a visually impaired
student in their class. They don’t expect you to be an expert! You will
receive a $50 Amazon gift card if you participate. The flyer has more
information. You can go to the online form to join the study. I hope you’ll
consider taking part in it.
Thanks,
