[BlindMath] When to use the left and right commands for brackets

No, LaTeX will not stretch parens/brackets/etc without \left and \right.
There are also fixed sizes that use \big, etc. I'd advise staying away from
them.
I agree with Johnathon's advice: don't bother unless you are trying to make
it look really nice or you know the contents are tall (e.g. a fraction or a
matrix, but \begin{pmatrix}/\end{pmatrix} is better for matrices). In case
you do need to make it look nice, having someone who is sighted and can
evaluate "looks nice" would be helpful. Sometimes, the smaller parens look
better than stretched ones. Without experience of feedback, you can't know
which is best.
