Good evening everyone,

Please count me in on this one. There's nothing like screen reader and accessibility first apps to fuel greater independence and in this case to spark interest in mathematics in the blind community.

Subject: [BlindMath] Seeking collaborators for a ground-up accessible mathematics workspace

Hello,

I am beginning an open-source project called Omniya Core:
https://github.com/ParkingSoman/omniya-core

The goal is to create a mathematical workspace designed from the ground up with blind mathematicians, blind STEM students, and screen-reader users, rather than adapting an existing visual model afterward.

The long-term ambition is to explore what a unified mathematical workspace could look like for blind mathematicians, one that supports the full range of work sighted mathematicians do while providing equally effective ways to read, write, organize, revise, and navigate mathematics.

The current desktop app is only an early prototype meant to make ideas concrete and spark conversation. I am not asking the community to refine or endorse its present design. I am more interested in understanding what such a workspace should fundamentally support and which assumptions from visual tools should be discarded.

Contributions of any kind are welcome, including lived experience, criticism, technical work, testing, research, documentation, and alternative design models. I am especially interested in connecting with people who may want to contribute on an ongoing basis to the project’s design vision as it develops. No programming experience is required.

Thank you,
Shonu Sengupta
Axiya
