Hello,
Sonja Biggs Educational Services, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified *Math
and LaTeX Tutor* to support a blind high school student who is developing
foundational math skills and progressing toward pre-calculus.
Position Overview
We are looking for a patient, detail-oriented educator to provide
structured, individualized instruction in remedial mathematics through
pre-calculus. Instruction must be delivered using accessible, nonvisual
teaching methods tailored to a blind learner.
The tutor will work closely with the *Teacher of the Blind and Visually
Impaired (TVI)* to ensure all instructional materials are provided in
appropriate accessible formats.
Collaboration & Accessibility Requirements
The tutor will coordinate with the TVI to obtain and/or develop accessible
instructional materials, including:

MathML
-
Nemeth Braille Code
-
Tactile graphics
-
Other screen reader–compatible documents
Location
-
*Preferred:* In-person instruction in the Sacramento, California area
-
*Alternative:* Remote instruction may be considered for highly qualified
candidates
Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one instruction in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and
pre-calculus
-
Teach and reinforce proper mathematical structure using LaTeX
-
Deliver instruction using accessible methods suitable for a blind student
-
Collaborate regularly with the TVI regarding materials and instructional
approach
-
Develop lesson plans, structured practice, and progress updates
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field
-
Strong mastery of high school mathematics through pre-calculus
-
Proficiency in LaTeX
-
Clear verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
-
Knowledge of *Nemeth Braille Code*
-
Experience teaching students who are blind or visually impaired
-
Familiarity with screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
-
Background in special education or accessible instructional design
-
Prior tutoring or classroom teaching experience
Compensation
Competitive and commensurate with experience.
