It can help debugging in these situations if installers first run script
then try their installs then type exit after the install finishes however
the install finishes. That even on the mac gets you a file called
typescript containing all of the input from and all of the output to the
terminal that happened during that install attempt. Such typescript files
when provided to developers can help their work tremendously. The script
program is on linux and unix and windows with mingw installed a user can
get that installed as a mingw download. All of this works in command line
environments in these operating systems I don't know if any alalogous
tools exist for graphical user environments of these systems though.

Hello,

I suggest trying to install gridGraphics first, possibly using a manually downloaded archive instead of the CRAN release. I know the package is under constant development as I work with Paul Murrell on a few things.

If you go the manual route, I would try the version from GitHub which might have the bug fixes you need.

An update to BrailleR is coming in the next two weeks or so, and I know the dependence on gridGraphics remains, especially as this is what we need for converting various graphs into a form that will allow the fonts to be altered to braille. This is a new way to get the braille working so it is fairly crucial that we get to the bottom of this installation problem.

In the short term, installation of an older version of gridGraphics might work for you. BrailleR will not check the version number (yet) so presence is better than absence. The use of the SVGThis() and BRLThis() functions will be compromised if the gridGraphics version is too old though. The version that was current when I first introduced this dependency was sufficient though which means no one was left behind so to speak.

Subject: [BlindRUG] Installation failure: the gridGraphics package

Happy new year list!

I hope you all had a fantastic start of the new year!

I am writing to ask your help to address the following issue:

I've installed the latest R on my Mac and tried to install BrailleR package, but I was not able to complete the installation since the gridGraphics which is one of the BrailleR's dependencies had non-zero exit status. Please see the warning message below:

----------

Warning message:

In install.packages("gridGraphics") :

installation of package 'gridGraphics' had non-zero exit status

----------

I tested both on Macbook Air and pro, and faced the same problem.

Any help will be so much appreciated!
  Sincerely,

       JooYoung Seo
