[BlindRUG] BlindRUG Digest, Vol 53, Issue 2

Hello Amy,

I can't really comment on the choices made by educators who want to revisit the pain they had as undergraduates on their students. Oh, I just did!!!

I'm seeing change in the way we teach stats coming through more and more. No tables, no reliance on piles of formulae in appendices, more use of the power of software to do quite interesting things with proper sized data sets, and more.

The first year course I co-teach used R, R markdown, ggplot, the tidyverse and was fun to teach. Our students were challenged as much as they wanted to be challenged. Some students di the bare minimum; some really excelled. It was very definitely a 21st century course, not a 20th century package with 21st century wrapping.

Jonathan

Jonathan,

One more comment. I had a professor that did not allow the sighted
students to use the calculator; they had to use the table. But I was
allowed to use the calculator, and I felt bad about it. But I guess I
didn't need to.
