[Blindtlk] A Frantic Plea for Assistance With a PDF File

There is a service which will convert a .pdf document into Word format if
you send it to them via email.  Unfortunately I don't have the email address
any longer.  I hoped that someone else on the list might.  If one of your
sighted classmates would give you a hard copy of the document, you could
scan and save it in whatever format you choose using Open Book or any other
OCR program.  I would also look at the accessibility section of the Adobe
web site.  I don't understand why it is going into Word.  It will never be a
word document unless you scan and convert it as I explained above.  I find
.pdf documents unpredictable.  If you ever get it open, you can go into the
File menu and choose to save it as a text,.txt, document.

Well, I go into adobe and then just do the command to open the file.
What the screen reader (Jaws) says before it freezes is document being
processed, and then it just stops doing anything at all.  The reason I
say that It appears that it is opening in word, is because that is what
my daughter said when she was trying to look at it for me.  She said
there was a word logo that appeared.

After mere frustration gave way to trying anything that came to mind, I
went into Windows explorer to see what information I would get there,
and when I did that, it just automatically went into Word and tried to
open it.

When I read Marty's suggestion, I called my daughter and asked her to
try to open the file on her computer.  She tried, and said that the file
opened fine, so it looks as if is a screen reader conflict.  

Is there a way to convert the image file so that it will be more
compatible with the screen reader?.

Diane,

please explain in more detail how it appears that the document is being
opened in Word before it freezes?  How are you opening the file and what
exactly is 
happening?
