Dear Alex:
I got a 404 error when going to that link, but found it by searching for
"blind" using the Gopetition search box.
I sympathize with the aims of the petition, which seeks to give blind people
the right to attend NFB rehabilitation centers in states which think their
training is perfectly adequate and put up much resistance. But I think that
the petition is not well-researched and not well-written. It should cite
the Rehabilitation Act without giving a specific or, in this case, a
non-specific year. It almost sounds like the NFB centers have too much fun,
which is not the right message. It spends too much time mentioning specific
access products, without talking about the strengthening of skills and
attitudes that takes place.
There's more, but I need to head out for a dinner and auction for the
scholarship fund of the NFB of Maryland which the Sligo Creek Chapter hosts.
I applaud the effort, but suggest you work with the person who is in charge
of legislative advocacy for the NFB in your state.
