[Blindtlk] Travel, Drivers, and canes

David,
Good point. Although new laws were passed to not allow drivers to use cell
phones while driving it is still being done and very true about drivers
blaring their music. Not to mention those unabiding citizens/drivers who
choose to drink and drive or be under the influence of some other very
horrible distraction.
I have had O&M training and the instructor even suggested and recommended
that I do not cross at the particular intersections that I want access to. I
do not know if other pedestrians actually cross the street at the
intersections. They all seem to J-Walk (cross in the middle of the street).
I once crossed the street with a few friends and we had to practically run
across at the intersection. There is just no indication letting drivers know
that a pedestrian wants to cross the street. I have called the state TXDOT,
The county and the city for assistance with this and I feel that they are
giving me the run around. I am going to continue to bug who ever I have to
get a cross walk in.

thanks,
Mari Hunziker
