[Blindtlk] gross but what do I do?

Hi Julie -- I feel that the occularist's response is good because peoples'
sockets behave differently. My occularist tells me to keep them in when
at all possible because if I keep taking them out, I will disturb the
equalibrium of moisture and dryness. I think I'll start cleaning them in
the shower more often again though and see if that helps. I'm afraid that
you'll have to just see what works best for you and keep us posted. I've
had mine since 1987 so if I can be of some kind of support for you or
anybody else who has had or will have that surgery on the list, I will.
Just take it nice and easy and careful when you put the eye back in. One
time I got the angle wrong and gave myself a very painful poke with the
edge in the implant -- fun!! I had my surgery because my real eyes
totally deteriorated and shrunk and I was getting unpredictable headaches
and nausea. These were completely gone afterwords and I wouldn't trade
that part of the relief for anything!

To all of you who have prosthetic eyes,

How often do you clean them? I just got mine last week and the Occularist

wasn't very helpful. He said that some people take it out daily for
cleaning, while others only take it out for their yearly visit with the
Occularist.

I don't have allergies. I do spend a fair amount of time outdoors, where
it
is quite frequently windy and dusty. It does feel dry and scratchy
sometimes. I'm going to the eye doctor tomorrow, so I'll ask there, but
if
he's as helpful as the Occularist...well I think you guys might have
better
info. *smile*

TIA
Julie
