[Blindtlk] open book

Niki,

I don't know anything specifically about Open Book, as I am a Kurzweil user, but, on most programs that I've seen, if you press the alt key, it will bring up the menus associated with that program and you can scroll through them and learn some that way. I can definitely sympathize with not liking to read the guides. I have that problem myself. LOL

Anyway, I am definitely not a techie by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact that you are getting a "no scanner" message sounds like there may be a connection issue or something not quite right in the setup or installation. So, you may want to try to start there. The program apparently isn't recognizing the scanner.

    Hi Peggy.
I emailed you a while ago and haven't gotten a response.

I'm very frustrated because I've tried the insert key on the num pad. I
didn't hear anything.
I'm wondering how am I going to know when it's done scanning? Will it say
something?

So, the insert key didn't do anything.
I then tried the space bar, but you know what?
A dialog box came up and said "acquisition... combo box, scanner."
So I assumed that was highlighted.
I tabbed down to see what else was in the dialog box and there was another
combo box that read "no scanner."
Then the usual "ok and cancel" buttons.

Seeing as how I don't know what I'm doing, lol, I hit enter on cancel.
Because I didn't want to mess anything up and not know how to change it
back, if I needed to.
I really don't know what I'm going to do!

Peggy, I'm unable to find your email address.
Could you email me instead?
Oh and could you please make the subject line recognizable?
Thanks.

There's a save option in open book, think it saves it in document form. You
can write me off list if you need to, I'll work through it with you.

    Oh cool!
Hope that works with all scanners, lol.
So what do you do to save it?

I have the Pearl too but you don't really need it unless you want to be
portable. With our scanner I just put whatever I'm scanning on the scanner,
hit spacebar, and off it goes.

    Hi all,
I recently got open book, just the program, to increase my independence.
Now, I’m a hands on learner, don’t like to read to find out how something
works.
My first question of many is, does it work better if I had the Pearl?
I have a scanner, but don’t know how to use it.
When you open the program, it says, “open book version 9.0, read only.”
Then I’m clueless as to what to do next or how to work it without having to
read the guide.

So, if anyone has any tips or a quick lesson, it would be greatly
appreciated.
God bless you all.
Nikki
