[Blindtlk] [nfb-talk] new NFB canes

Welcome to the NFB! You’ll find we don’t tend to let people "take"
our preferred canes around here!
And speaking of taking things, there’s a lot of things we tend to
"not take". Y'know, stuff like, "You can’t do that because you’re
blind", "That won’t be possible for you", and "You need to learn to
accept the limitations blindness places upon you" for starters.
Nope, we don’t take any of that around here! *grin*
But back to canes for a moment… Why on earth anyone would want a
heavier cane is beyond me—though I once did myself prefer such
myself. A lighter and longer cane allows you to move faster, with a
natural stride, use an effective cane technique (which usually means
more centered) for a longer period of time, with less fatigue. Yeah,
it necessarily means the cane is not indestructible, but if you learn
to use a cane as a tool rather than wield it like a club, that
doesn’t matter much.
