Hi Nikki,
I'm glad it works now! If you have any more questions, please let
us know. Also, I believe there's a list for OpenBook users. Go
to www.freedomscientific.com click on training, and see what you
can find.

Brian and all, I want to thank you for your help.
Especially Brian for telling me to go to "device selection" and
picking one
of the two and doing a trial and error.
It worked!!
I can scan now, yay!
hi,
sorry i didn't say to see what may be in that list.
you just have to pick one and try to scan something.

Well, I am pretty much on my own.
Been at this all day, lol.
But I went back to advanced, device selection, and tabbed once
to "no
scanner," but wanted to see if I could change it since it is a
combo box.
So, I hit the down arrow key and was surprised to find the name
of my
printer!
One problem though. I ti has two choices and I don't know which
one to
choose, both being my printer, but with different numbers, like
one has
4usb and the other has something like 4n, at the end of the
line.
So, I DK which one to try.

printer/scanner is not
installed.
let us know if someone set everything up or if you were left to
figure it
out on your own.

Brian, I did that and it gave me the same dialog box "combo
box:
scanner" and I tabbed once, and it said, "combo box: no
scanner."
I don't know how to fix that.
Ron, if you read my post on what kind of scanner I have, it
might help.
Open Book was bought for me by my DOHRS counselor. She had it
mailed to
my house and I guess she just expected me to know what I was
doing. Not
fair to me at all.
I told her I have a scanner because someone at FS told me that I
didn't
need the pearl.
I'm new to this stuff.
Thanks for all your help.
Blessings to you all.

Hi Niki, Who sold it to you?
call them or Freedom Scientific.
Did someone come to your place and set things up for you?
That's why I say call them.
You should always turn your scanner on before loading Openbook.
If in the future, you are using Openbook to read files you have
saved,
you
will need to close Openbook and restart again if your scanner
hadn't been
turned on before starting your session with Openbook.
My K1000 says something like "no scanner" or "scanner not
recognised," so
I
close K1000 make sure the scanner is on, then restart. Problem
solved.
You may need to have Windows search the internet for your
drivers, if
they
haven't already been installed. You may need to know the make
and model
of
your scanner to do this. I don't feel confident in telling you
how to do
this, so that's better left to someone else.

Hi Peggy.
I emailed you a while ago and haven't gotten a response.
I'm very frustrated because I've tried the insert key on the num
pad. I
didn't hear anything.
I'm wondering how am I going to know when it's done scanning?
Will it
say something?
So, the insert key didn't do anything.
I then tried the space bar, but you know what?
A dialog box came up and said "acquisition... combo box,
scanner."
So I assumed that was highlighted.
I tabbed down to see what else was in the dialog box and there
was
another combo box that read "no scanner."
Then the usual "ok and cancel" buttons.
Seeing as how I don't know what I'm doing, lol, I hit enter on
cancel.
Because I didn't want to mess anything up and not know how to
change it
back, if I needed to.
I really don't know what I'm going to do!

There's a save option in open book, think it saves it in
document form.
You
can write me off list if you need to, I'll work through it with
you.

I have the Pearl too but you don't really need it unless you
want to be
portable. With our scanner I just put whatever I'm scanning on
the
scanner,
hit spacebar, and off it goes.

Hi all,
I recently got open book, just the program, to increase my
independence.
Now, Iâm a hands on learner, donât like to read to find out
how
something
works.
My first question of many is, does it work better if I had the
Pearl?
I have a scanner, but donât know how to use it.
When you open the program, it says, âopen book version 9.0,
read only.â
Then Iâm clueless as to what to do next or how to work it
without having
to
read the guide.
So, if anyone has any tips or a quick lesson, it would be
greatly
appreciated.
God bless you all.
Nikki
