Hello Chris and everyone,
You most definitely need to run all activities to occur during NFB events by
Dr. Maurer. I know this from bitter experience and remind others to be sure
he's in the loop when planning NFB event activities. So yes holding another
blood drive at a national convention would need his stamp of approval before
the event can occur. All the best.

I think you would have to get approval from Dr. Maurer to run an
event such as this at national convention. But I don't know for
sure; can a division run an event at national convention without
having to get approval from Dr. Maurer? And, Mike, what do you
think his answer would be?

If I were you guys, first thing I'd do would be to ask Dr.
Maurer. I think I
know what his answer would be.

Hi Peter,
I know Darian, but I don't think he is on this list. I forwarded
your message to him. I also sent it to the Community Service
division, as they might be interested in taking this project on.

Subject: [Blindtlk] NFB Blood Drive
Good evening again everyone,
I believe it was at either the 2003 or the 2005 national
convention that
a blood drive was held. Mary gave blood during that convention.
As I recall
Gary Wunder headed up this convention activity. There have not
been any
blood drives at our national convention since that one and I
never found out
why.
Since we've entered the age of community service and have a
group that
could manage this project perhaps this is something we should
start again
particularly in light of the recent problems blind donors faced
when
attempting to give blood. I sure hope Darrien Smith reads this.
Perhaps our
local chapters and state affiliates could conduct similar blood
drives. This
is another way to combat discrimination against the blind and do
community
service at the same time.
