Mike,

Oh no; let's not start * that * thread again! I do know what
entity produces Main Menu, and I know what organization many of
its contributors are members of. But, it doesn't matter! Is Main
Menu a show related to ACB or does its views have anything to do
with ACB's? No; it has nothing to do with ACB; it's a technology
show where anyone who is blind can review any accessible
technology they have and know how to use! It is a show which
provides information about technology to the blind so we can make
educated decisions about what technology to buy or get. Hmm...
what does that remind me of? Oh, I know... the NFB Access
Technology Blog from our own IBTC! I personally know ACB members
and supporters who get a lot of information out of the articles,
blog posts, and product reviews on the NFB Access Technology Blog
and... the Braille Monitor! That's right; they read the Braille
Monitor to get information! In the same way, I know
Federationists (like myself) who listen to ACB Radio; maybe not
their ACB-RELATED programming, because it doesn't apply to us,
but shows like Main Menu which provide general information and
opinions to blind people. ACB even tried to pass a resolution at
their convention this year that would have banned non-ACB members
from joining their lists, participating in any of their projects
(ACB related or otherwise,) and from contributing in any way,
shape or form to ACB Radio programming (ACB related or
otherwise.) That resolution was soundly defeated. So, what's
wrong with putting an opportunity for our tech-savvy people to
use their knowledge for the good of the blind community? Come on;
just because we're NFB members and not ACB members doesn't mean
we can't get useful information from their programming!

Chris

Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year!

"The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight. The
real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of education that
exists. If a blind person has the proper training and
opportunity, blindness can be reduced to a mere physical

This may be a good opportunity for some of our tech experts! Main
Menu is a
great show, and any of you who have listened to it know how
informative it
is. I'm sure some of you would be a great addition to their
team! Please
see the below message from their executive producer, Chase
Crispin for more
information.

Greetings Main Menu listeners, supporters, and friends,

In order to continue to make Main Menu a better show covering all
types of
technology usable by the blind and visually impaired and to
produce weekly
unique and exciting content, we are seeking to expand the Main
Menu team.
The Main Menu team is the team behind each and every Main Menu
show that you
here on ACB Radio on a weekly basis. The team is responsible for
conducting
interviews, recording segments, editing outside content, advising
the host
and producer about future shows, contacting companies about their
latest
innovations, and so much more. A member of the Main Menu team
has a wide
variety of opportunities to influence one of the most popular
assistive
technology shows on the internet today.

Do you feel that you are skilled in audio production, technology
instruction, and have good ideas for the show? Would you be
willing to work
with others and create an even better show? If so, you are
eligible to
apply to join the Main Menu team. We have created an extensive
application
to judge people's areas of expertise. If you are interested in
filling out
this application to join the team, please email us at:
mainmenu at acbradio.org
and we will send you an application. The application will arrive
in
Microsoft Office Word 2003 .doc format. If you are unable to
read this
format and must have it in another format, please let us know in
your
initial email requesting this form. When the form is entirely
filled out,
please save it and email it back to us at the above email address
as an
attachment.

Please note: Requests for the application may not be received if
sent
directly to a Main Menu staff member or via the mailing list. To
successfully receive and submit an application, you must email:
mainmenu at acbradio.org

ACB Radio and the Main Menu team reserve the right to not accept
an
applicant to the team. We will accept whom we think will help us
fulfill
our mission to other blind and visually impaired people the most.
We have a
very large listener base and we want to keep a small team, so not
everyone
will be accepted.

If you feel that you know someone else or another list of people
who would
like to apply for this position, please feel free to forward this
message to
them and to spread the word of Main Menu as you see appropriate.

On behalf of the entire Main Menu team, we thank you for your
continued
interest and support in our program. We look forward to working
with you.

Sincerely,

Chase Crispin
Executive Producer, ACB Radio Main Menu
