[Blindtlk] Ambutech Cane Question

Hi Dianne,
I've used the Ambutech folding canes for a long time before I got
my NFB straight cane. I've had some experience with the
telescopic cane, and I didn't really like it as much as the
folding cane, because I think it contracts very awkwardly. So, I
would recommend the folding cane over the telescoping one. As a
person who switched over from the folding cane to the straight
cane, I would just advise you that there's a weight difference in
the folding cane to the straight cane, in that the folding cane
is about twice as heavy as the straight cane. This has proved to
be a big difference in my mobility. I couldn't do the
two-point-touch technique with the folding cane very well,
especially outside or in the grass, since I had to lift that
heavy thing up every time I tried to tap it. So I had to resort
to constant contact. But I'm using two-point-touch with the
straight cane again and it's a lot better, in that I'm able to
get a lot more information out of sound. Anyone who's been to a
national convention where a lot of cane users are present and
tapping knows exactly what I mean. :) Hope that helps!

Subject: [Blindtlk] Ambutech Cane Question
Hi guys,
My apologies for any cross postings. I'm just wondering whether
anyone has ever used the ambutech graphite telescoping canes? The
description on the Ambutech site sounds like this cane might hold
up a little better and be a little less likely to collapse at
inopportune times the way that the carbon fiber and the fiber
glass tend to do after they have been used for a while. However,
it is $55, so I really don't want to spend that much-almost
double the price-if I'm not getting something that is a lot
better. I have experience with the graphite folding canes, but
have never used one of their telescopic canes.
Any feedback appreciated.
Thanks,
