Chris. I don't know the incident in Washington, but I do remember Primo in Utah. First, if that is the one you're referring to, I am surprised and pleased that you're doing such research. For those of us who were around when that happened, it was very important. Now we have always argued about
how broad of a brush we should use when we deal with other disabilities. If you remember our constitution and history, we do not join in coalitions. We have and do, however, work with other groups of disabled persons to improve things. I say all of that to say that yes, we should be concerned about a wheelchaired person being beaten by police.
We should be concerned about any unprovoked (and that is the key) gratuitous harassment by law enforcement. Not just when it happens to a disabled person. When I see such stories, however, I always wonder what started it. I would hope that there was a reason, since most law enforcement here do not just run like a gang and find someone to beat up. And, being a scenic, I know that if a person runs over a police officer, damages a police car,, is drunk, belligerent, and an officer takes out his/her stick to defend him/herself, the headline that sells the paper will still be
Police Officer Attacks Man in Wheelchair.
It sounds so much better than "Police Officer Defends Him/herself from abuse by angry man."
Please keep finding those historical references. I hope I get to meet you when you come to a convention.

Here's an example. Many people on this list have (in different
threads) referenced the incident of the person being beaten up by a janitor at a sheltered workshop for being a Federationist.
Couldn't this be kind of like this guy in a wheelchair, but with officers? As NFB members, we advocate for the rights of the blind, but also of all disabilities, and minorities for that matter. This was wrong and a violation of rights, and the prejudice could also extend to blind people. That's the importance of NFB!

Well cant something like this raise a certain awareness? You know
what can happen to a guy in a wheelchair could happen to you.
Folks like us are all vulnerable and we need to stand up to
tyrany.
