[Blindtlk] blind lovebird owners -- please help

I don't know a thing about birds, but I know some things about animals
generally and this sounds like it may be a medical or behavioral problem.
If it was my bird, I take it to a vet and make sure there's nothing
medically wrong with it. Maybe the bird is extra territorial and a pet
behaviorist could help. I know such people are expensive, but, if I wanted
to keep the pet, I'd give it a try.

Subject: [Blindtlk] blind lovebird owners -- please help

Hi all. Are there any blind lovebird owners on the list? I have one
lovebird and am having a very bad time with extreme cage ogression! She
bites me whenever she can, from wherever I am working with her cage! She
can and does easily stick her beak through the bars and nail me! When she
clamps down, it's not just an on then off bite but she hangs on and won't
let go for two or three seconds. She makes me bleed often and I'm
seriously thinking of selling her to a new home somewhere. She will land
on my head and arm when out of the cage, so I don't think she hates me,
but when I'm doing food, water, or cleaning the cage and that beak flashes
over and gives me a painful, bloody surprise because I don't know it's
coming, I really get frustrated! When she was young and I first got her,
she started nibbling on my fingers if they got close enough and I thought
it was cute. But since she's learned how to bite them full strength, it's
just very exasperating! Any ideas on how I can head off the beak when I
don't know it's coming?

You can write me either at rsmith247 at csc.com or bozbirdman at msn.com.

Thanks so much,

Bob Smith (youch)!
p.s. I've had parakeets with success, but they don't have the same mind
set. I've had the lovebird for almost two years.
