Excellent point Liz.  You know what is really sad, is that the transit 
system almost dictates where we can live even within a major city.  My 
family and I would like to look for another home now, but the nicer homes 
that would best fit our needs are in the suburbs where the bus 
transportation is either very sporadic or nonexistent.

We want and need a  bigger home, within a better school district, but I am 
really afraid of moving somewhere where I will have to rely exclusively on 
para transit and the family vehicle.  I just don't think that it is wise to 
make that move, but what do you do?

Hello all,

My apologies for jumping in so  late on this discussion.

I live in Fort worth, Texas a sprawling city of over 750,000 people.
Bus service is most efficient if one lives and works near the downtown area
which is true in my case.

I chose to buy a home on a major bus line so that I would not have long
waits and transfer times.
Bus service becomes quite sporadic in the outer areas of the city. I use
buses for going to work or for shopping trips to the SuperTarget and
PetsMart near my home. I also take taxis frequently. I occasionally use
paratransit when taking the bus somewhere isnt' practical or when a taxi
would be too expensive.
I believe that we need to be as independent as possible but also make use of
whatever transit system is gong to  best meet our needs at a particular
time.
