[Blindtlk] Ultra Embarrassing

Diane,

I have done the same thing. My most embarrassing one was I wore two shoes
that were different. It was summer and I was in a hurry. It was very
embarrassing because I was off to my new MIL's. By the time I noticed, it
was too late to go back home.

I do think the sad fact is though that sighted people do the same thing. We
just can't see their faults. But you are right, most people will chalk it up
to that we are blind and didn't know any different.

Good Morning All,

Just needing to vent, and thought I would share a little frustration at an
embarrassing incident which has me feeling very small this morning, and my
amazement at the fact that it happened just one day after my post about the
importance of visual appearance. I got up this morning, still feeling
sleepy and dressing hurriedly. It is "casual day" here today, so I decided
on some comfortable red pants and a black shirt. I jumped in the car with my
daughter and headed downtown to work.

Just as I was preparing to get out of the car, I realized that instead of my
black shirt, I had grabbed a majenta pink shirt. The shirts are very
similar, so if one isn't paying close attention, it is easy to confuse them
tactually. So, now I am wearing red and majenta. I am frustrated not only
because of the obvious cause for embarrassment due to the mismatched
clothing, but at the fact that most of the sighted who don't know me well
will likely chalk it up to my blindness. Thus, its relevance to the list.
It could, conceivably, have happened to anyone who was sleepy, in a hurry,
and didn't stop to take that last glance in the mirror. But, because I am
blind, that will automatically be the reason in the minds of most.

I am going to need to stay in my office all day. Thankfully it is in the
back, and there isn't a lot of traffice in the area. I have a blue sweater
that I am trying to keep wrapped tightly around me to cover up my crazy
mistake. I almost turned around and went back home. I cannot believe I did
this.
