[Blindtlk] braille printer questions

Well, you are on the right list. Probably someone from your state could tell you. Contact the NFB affiliate in Illinois, or whatever state you are in, and the folks can help.

How would I find out if my state has something like that? If I went to
DORS, they'd ask, "why" and then start telling me, "oh! we can buy it for
you." But there's that catch. School or a job. I had to beg them for Open
Book. Ugh! I guess I'm going to have to go to school to get one.

The nFB used to have a technology loan program. However, seeing as we are a
bit strapped for funds ourselves -- we can carry on eesential programs but
are cutting back a bit on the "electives" -- I believe it is in suspension
for the moment.

In the state of Washington, there's a foundation -- the Washington Assistive
Technology Foundation (WATF) -- that makes loans to disabled persons. How
many other states have such an outfit, I do not know. WATF's web address is
<http://www.watf.org>.

The state won't pay for things needed unless needed for school or a job.
What other organizations will help?

Mike and Listers,

Of course we aren't *entitled* to these things, and they are expensive to
manufacture. Indeed, folks need to make money. So, that's why there are
loan programs made available through organizations like ours and even
private assistive technology foundations. If we can only get blind people
paid fair wages at Goodwill and other places of employment, we can then pay
off loans, etc. (grin.)

Whom *would* you suggest pay for it? People aren't producing these things
out of the goodness of their hearts!

That's what I did before posting my first post. I just can't believe
they want 4500 for it. How do these companies expect the blind who don't
work, pay for something like this? Pretty obsurd, if you ask me.

Hi Judy and Nikki,

A quick Google search for Enabling Technologies will probably get you the
information you need.

Hello,

I have the Juliet and love it; it really is a workhorse. It's the Juliet
Pro 60. Enabling technologies sells them, but don't have a phone number
handy.

Judy
